Round Up of News from the Online Casino Industry in Feb 2014

A lot has been happening within the online gambling industry over the past couple of weeks and this page will take a look at some of the major talking points. As well as the ICE Totally Gaming 2014 event taking place, the 7th International Gaming Awards (IGA) also recently took place.

Williams Interactive/Jackpot Party Casino won the Slots Operator of the Year (Online) award and IGT won the award for Slot Manufacturer/Provider Online or Land Based. The Socially Responsible Operator of the Year Online award went to Paddy Power and the land based version of this award went to the Rank Group. Unibet won the Online Sportsbook Operator of the Year award and PokerStars won the Online Poker Operator of the Year award.

The Online Gaming Operator of the Year award went to Cherry Casino and the Online Casino Operator of the Year award went to Mr Green [casino]. The iGaming Software Supplier award went to Playtech and the award for Innovator of the Year went to Net Entertainment (NetEnt).

NetEnt recently launched a new game called Big Bang, plus a Swedish player won the largest progressive jackpot ever paid out on a NetEnt Touch mobile slot (while playing on Mega Fortune Touch™). The lucky player netted himself EUR 658,148. NetEnt also revealed on February 5th that it would be adding to its impressive portfolio of branded slots on 24th April with the release of an online slot based on the sci-fi movie, Aliens.

The President and CEO of Net Entertainment, Per Eriksson, said, “Aliens™ is a genuine classic and we’re very pleased to announce our newest best–in-class video slot as we continue to drive the online casino market forward through better games. We’re certain our latest innovative branded offering will provide excellent value to operators while giving players the thrill of their lives.”

He continued, “The real-time 3D graphics demonstrate our commitment to innovation and we’re delighted this has been recognised with the top prize “Innovator of the Year” at the International Gaming Awards.” These words came directly from the NetEnt website.

In other news, WMS Gaming recently launched three new online slots. These new titles included Crime Pays, Zeus lll (aka Zeus 3) and also Elvis: The King Lives. IGT Interactive also recently unveiled several new titles, Cluedo Classic, Battleship, Wolf Rising and Vegas, Baby! Playtech’s very latest slot is an Asian themed slot called Wu Long.

Microgaming has also been really busy lately. This award-winning software provider recently announced plans for several new branded slot machines which will arrive over the coming months. These new slots to keep an eye out for include a Jurassic Park slot (although there are plans for a trilogy of new Jurassic Park themed slots). Microgaming is also developing a Terminator 2 slot and a Game of Thrones slot.

On February 5th, Microgaming launched Avalon ll: The Quest for the Grail online slot (Avalon 2), which is now available at numerous fully licensed online casinos. Microgaming also announced that its non-downloadable Quickfire platform will soon arrive at Betfair.
